Collection: Handcrafted Indian Wall Mirrors

Hand-painted Indian wall mirrors in two forms: the jharokha, a Rajasthani palace-window frame with an arched opening, and the mandala, a round disc of concentric hand-drawn pattern with a mirror at its centre. Nineteen pieces, $60 to $320, all with real mirror glass.

Which one do you need

Jharokha, 12x10 inches — $60. Three listings at this size, differing only in the painting: eight colourways of white line work, six multicolour florals, and a five-colour hand-painted set. These are bought in grids of four to eight, so choose the listing whose style you want to repeat across a wall.

Jharokha, 20x16 inches — $85 to $195. The Large Jharokha in seven colours is three times the panel with a scalloped cusped arch. The Rajasthani version at $160 has working hinged shutters, brass hardware and a hand-set mirror-glass surround. Three signed panels by Sakshi Khullar at $195 — Yellowstone Mist, Thunderstorm Blue Ridge and White House — have doors that open onto the mirror.

Mandala, 24 inches — $160. Six designs, all one price, so the choice is purely which pattern suits the room. Red & Teal has the largest centre mirror in the range at 14 inches. Pink Sunburst is the only one whose edge is cut into petals rather than left round. Ivory & Black is the most neutral — the one that works in a room with nothing else Indian in it. Monochrome Feather, Multicolour and Yellow Lotus complete the set, and Yellow Lotus is the one for a dark hallway where the colour does the work a window would.

Mandala, 36 inches — $320. Four designs and a genuinely different proposition: three feet across and 5.6 kg, which makes it the anchor of a wall rather than an addition to it. Hawaii Rainforest is the only one with mirror chips inlaid into the rings, so it needs a light source to work. Hawa Mahal Pink takes its palette from the rose sandstone palace of 953 windows. Peacock closes its outer ring with around forty individually drawn feather eyes. California Poppy is the brightest.

Carved wood — $100. An 18-inch carved mirror with green parrots and pink lotus, the only carved-timber frame here.

Where these work

A hallway or entry where a mirror opens the space, above a console, over a mantel, or as a grid of the 12x10 jharokhas along a stair wall. The 36-inch mandalas suit a large blank wall above a sofa or bed.

Frequently asked questions

Is the mirror real glass?
Yes. Every mirror and every piece of inlay across our wall art is real mirror glass, hand-set. We do not use mirrored acrylic.
How big is a 36-inch mandala, really?
Three feet across. Cut a 36-inch circle from newspaper and tape it to the wall before ordering — it is consistently larger than people picture, and at 5.6 kg an unwanted return is expensive.
How do I hang the large ones?
The 36-inch pieces need two hooks and fixings rated for the weight, ideally into a stud. Screws and wall anchors are not supplied.
What are the frames made of?
MDF for the jharokha and mandala pieces, painted by hand. MDF holds fine carved detail and stays flat, where solid wood at these thin sections would warp against a wall. The parrot and lotus mirror is carved timber.
What is the difference between the six 24-inch mandalas?
Pattern, palette and centre-mirror size. All six are $160, so nothing is being held back at a lower price.
Can these go in a bathroom?
No. Painted MDF and hand-set mirror work are for dry interior walls only.
Do they arrive ready to hang?
Yes, with the hanging hardware fitted to the piece. You supply the wall fixings.
