Hand-Painted Jharokha Mirror – 12x10 Inches, 8 Colours

The painting

Every frame is painted by hand, freehand, with no stencil and no transfer. One artisan lays the ground colour, lets it dry, then works the white line detail over the top with a fine brush — leaf vines on the Royal Blue, scattered daisies on the Chrome Yellow, a pair of facing birds on the Nile Blue. The line work is where the hours go, and it is the reason no two frames are quite identical.

Where it goes

At 12 inches this is a small mirror — it is for looking at, and for a quick check on the way out of the door, rather than for getting dressed in front of. Entryways. Powder rooms. Beside a bed. Most often it goes up in a group: four, six or eight in different colours make a grid that carries a whole wall, and that is how most customers here buy them.

Hanging it

There is a flat metal bracket on the back, ready for a single nail or screw. At 800 g one fixing into drywall holds it. For a grid, hang the centre piece first and work outward, keeping a consistent 2 to 3 inch gap. Screws and wall anchors are not supplied.

Care

Glass cleaner on the mirror, applied to the cloth rather than sprayed on the frame. Dust the painted surface with a dry cloth only.
