Collection: Handwoven Charpai Benches & Stools

A charpai is the woven Indian daybed — a mango wood frame strung by hand with jute cord, no springs and no foam. The seating here uses that same weave at smaller scale, alongside carved elephant stools and low wooden chowkis. Fifteen pieces, $115 to $700.

Which one do you need

Handwoven charpai — $115 to $260. The Charpai Bench & Stool comes in stool and bench widths, the bench being the one that takes two people or works at the end of a bed. The Charpai Rope Stool in nine colours is the compact version, sized as a dressing stool. Both are cord over mango wood, so they give slightly under weight the way a woven seat should.

Elephant stools — $135 to $140. Six listings of a carved elephant supporting a round top. Natural mango wood in three designs and dark brown in four at $135, black, gold or grey at $135, and three hand-painted versions — white and red, black and orange, red and blue — at $140. These are side tables and plant stands rather than seating.

Plain wood — $115. An 18-inch mango wood stool with no carving, which is the one that disappears into a room and works as a plant stand or a bedside surface.
