Collection: Brass Decor – Lamps, Statues & Pooja Ware

Solid cast brass, uncoated. That matters because a large share of gold-coloured Indian decor sold online is iron or aluminium under a gold polish, which looks similar in a photograph and behaves nothing like brass in the hand. Everything here is the metal itself, so it has the weight, the warm yellow tone that deepens with age, and the ability to be polished back. Twenty-two pieces, $55 to $550.

Which one do you need

Oil lamps. The Kuthu Vilakku Nilavilakku comes in four heights, $165 for the shortest up to $480 for the 42-inch, and past about 30 inches it is a floor-standing lamp flanking a doorway rather than anything that sits on a shelf. The Kerala Samai pair at 14 inches is the mandir-shelf size. The Annam Bird diya at 8.5 inches is the smallest, named for the mythic swan that carries the lamp. The Shankh and Chakra pair hangs on chains, which almost nothing else in brass does.

Statues. A 24-inch standing Krishna as Venugopal with the flute at $550 is the largest piece here. Two Ganeshas: a 9.5-inch antique gold Ganpati and a larger idol in three designs. A 12-inch Buddha in Vitarka mudra, the teaching gesture with thumb and forefinger touching. And Kamdhenu, the wish-fulfilling cow with her calf, hand-engraved.

Pooja ware. Ashtalakshmi and Dashavatar kalash in three sizes, a Dashavatar Vishnu shankh engraved with the ten avatars, a nine-compartment peacock shingardani for kumkum and haldi, a dhoop dani incense burner with a peacock lid on a tortoise base, an engraved temple bell on a chain in two sizes, and a 15-inch swastik wall hanging with bells for the doorway.

Urlis. The hammered urli in 12 and 16 inch, the Ganesha urli with a pierced backplate, and a set of five mini urlis for prasad or as return gifts.

For the kitchen and table. An 8-inch masala dabba with seven bowls and a spoon, and a set of six davara tumblers for South Indian filter coffee.

Where these work

A pooja room or mandir, either side of an entrance for the tall lamps, a dining table or console for the urlis and kalash, and a kitchen counter for the masala dabba and davara set. Bought most often for Diwali, Varalakshmi Vratam, Kalash Sthapana, Ganesh Chaturthi, Janmashtami and griha pravesh.

Frequently asked questions

Is this solid brass or plated?
Solid brass throughout, and uncoated. Weight for each piece is stated on its product page, which is the quickest way to tell solid brass from a plated lookalike.
Will it tarnish?
Yes, and that is normal. Uncoated brass darkens over months into a deeper tone many people prefer. If you want the bright finish back, any household brass polish restores it. Nothing here is lacquered, so nothing peels.
How do I clean it?
A dry cloth for dust. For tarnish, tamarind or lemon with salt is the traditional method, or a commercial brass polish. Rinse and dry fully afterwards so no moisture sits in the engraving.
Can I use the oil lamps with oil and wick?
Yes. These are functional lamps built for sesame or ghee oil with cotton wicks, not decorative shells. Place them on a heat-tolerant surface — brass conducts, so the base gets warm.
Can I blow the shankh?
No. This is a cast brass shankh made as a decorative and ritual object. Only a natural conch shell can be sounded.
Is the masala dabba food safe?
It is made for dry spices. Do not store wet masala, chutney or anything acidic in bare brass.
Do these arrive assembled?
Yes. The taller oil lamps may have a stem that screws into the base; everything else is a single piece.
