A set of five small brass urli bowls, each about the size of a teacup, with a flat handle at either side. They are the bowls that come out for prasad during puja — one for each offering — and they double as the smallest urlis we make, holding a single flower head or a tealight.
Product details
- Set of 5 bowls
- Each bowl: 4 inches inner diameter, 5.5 inches across the handles, 2.5 inches tall
- Weight: 155 g each, 775 g for the set (approx. 1.7 lb)
- Material: solid brass, uncoated
- Finish: polished brass
- Handmade in India
- Not dishwasher safe
Why this one
- Five of them. Enough to set out a full thali of offerings at once, or to scatter down a table as individual tealight holders.
- 155 g each, 775 g for the set — approx. 1.7 lb. Heavy enough that they do not skid or tip when a child reaches for one.
- Solid brass, uncoated, with a polished interior. Nothing plated.
- Round-bellied urli shape, not a plain dish — the same profile as the large urlis, scaled down, with cast handles.
Two diameters, and which one matters
Each bowl is 4 inches across the inside and 5.5 inches across the handles, and 2.5 inches tall. Use the 5.5-inch figure when you are working out how many will fit on a thali or a shelf.
Which one do I need
Three brass urlis, three different jobs:
- Brass Ganesha urli — seated Ganesha on a pierced backplate, $180
- Hammered brass urli — plain hammered bowl, two sizes, $140 and $170
Where it works
- A home mandir, holding prasad, kumkum, akshata and flowers
- Down the centre of a dining table, one tealight in each
- A Diwali or Navratri table, filled with dry fruit and nuts
- A pooja thali, as the small bowls that sit on it
- Return gifts — one bowl per guest rather than the whole set
Gifting
This is the set people buy for return gifts, because five bowls split into five gifts and each one still feels like a real object rather than a favour. It suits Diwali, Navratri, a housewarming, a baby shower and Indian weddings, and it works as a hostess gift where you want to bring something Indian and useful. Buying in volume for an event or for return gifts — get in touch before ordering. We can usually help on price at that quantity and confirm stock against your date.
