Collection: Antique Silver Decor

Antique silver is a finish, not a metal. These pieces are cast or spun in brass, copper and aluminium depending on the item, then plated and oxidised so the raised detail stays bright while the recesses darken. That contrast is what makes engraved work readable across a room. Eighteen pieces here, from an $80 fruit bowl to a $700 wedding pedestal.

Which one do you need

Urli bowls — four sizes, and they are genuinely different objects rather than one shape scaled up. The 7.5-inch floral cutout is pierced right through with a separate inner bowl holding the water. The 9-inch rose is the shallow wide one. The 17-inch jungle bowl carries elephants, deer, a leopard and peacocks in raised repoussé. The 26-inch leaves bowl is the heavyweight, with two cast side handles no other piece has.

Oil lamps — three, and height is the only question that matters. The 11-inch peacock samai sits on a mandir shelf. The 16-inch elephant samai is the sculptural one, with a cast elephant base and peacock finial. The 28-inch nilavilakku is floor-standing, not a table lamp.

Pooja thalis — the Om five-piece set, and the Raksha Bandhan set with thali, kalash, bell and two lidded pots.

Kalash — the 7-inch leaves and the 7.5-inch elephant. Counter-intuitively the shorter one is the heavier, because it is copper and copper is denser than brass.

Vases and centerpieces — the hand-engraved foliage vase, the tall engraved vase in 16 or 21 inch, the lidded flower pot set, the fruit bowl in two shapes, the 12-inch candle holder pair, and a pair of walking ambabari elephants. An ambabari is the canopied howdah carried on an elephant's back in Rajasthani processions.
