A pooja thali is the tray a household keeps its ritual pieces on — the lamp, the kumkum, the incense — so that everything needed for aarti sits together and comes out as one set. This is a five-piece set on an Om-engraved tray, in brass finished to antique silver.

Product details

  • Pieces: 5
  • Thali diameter: 10.75 inches
  • Total weight: 925 g (approx. 2 lb)
  • Material: brass, nickel-plated and oxidised to an antique silver finish
  • Decoration: hand-engraved Om motif
  • Handmade in India

Why this one

  • 925 g across the five pieces — approx. 2 lb. The tray has enough weight that it does not skid when you lift the lamp off it, which is the usual complaint with thin pressed thalis.
  • Brass underneath. Nickel-plated and then oxidised, so the darkening settles into the engraving and gives the antique silver depth rather than a flat grey. It carries the look of old family silver without the polishing that solid silver demands.
  • Hand-engraved. The Om and the surrounding work are cut by hand, so no two trays are identical.
  • Complete as bought. Five pieces, nothing else to source before your first aarti.

What is in the set

  • Thali plate: 10.75 inches
  • Kalash / lota: 3 inches
  • Agarbatti stand: 2 inches
  • Mini kumkum box: 2 inches
  • Mini oil stand: 2 inches

Where it works

  • A home mandir, as the everyday aarti tray
  • Lakshmi Puja and Diwali, when the whole set comes out at once
  • Ganesh Chaturthi and Satyanarayan Puja
  • A griha pravesh, where a complete set is the traditional thing to arrive with
  • On a shelf between festivals — the engraved tray stands on its own

Gifting

A complete pooja set is one of the safer gifts in this category, because the recipient does not have to like your taste in decor to use it. It suits griha pravesh and housewarming, a wedding, a first Diwali in a new home, and Lakshmi Puja. It arrives in plain packaging with no price on it. If you need several — for a temple, a community event or corporate Diwali gifting — get in touch before ordering and we will confirm stock and talk about price.

Frequently asked questions

Is this German silver?
Not literally, and we would rather say so plainly. German silver — also sold as nickel silver — is a copper, nickel and zinc alloy that contains no silver in it at all. This set is brass, nickel-plated and then oxidised so the darkening settles into the engraving. A lot of this category gets sold as German silver regardless of what is actually underneath, so it is worth knowing which you are buying.
Is it solid silver?
No, and that is deliberate. Solid silver at this size would cost many times more and would need polishing after every use. This gives you the same look with none of the upkeep.
How many pieces exactly?
Five: the thali plate, the kalash, the agarbatti stand, the kumkum box and the oil stand. Sizes are listed above.
Can I put oil and a wick straight into the oil stand?
Yes. Wipe it out once it has cooled rather than leaving oil standing in it.
Will it tarnish?
It will darken slowly, and the antique finish is designed for that — the deepening in the recesses is what gives the engraving its definition. A soft dry cloth over the raised areas brightens it again.
How do I clean it?
Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Do not put it in the dishwasher and do not use abrasive scourers or acidic cleaners — they will cut through the plating. Between uses, store it in a sealed plastic bag; that slows tarnishing more than anything else you can do.
Is it food safe?
Treat it as a ritual and decorative set. Dry prasad on the thali is fine; we would not serve a meal from it.
Can I order several for an event?
Yes — get in touch before you order if you need more than a few. We can usually help on price for larger quantities and confirm stock before you commit to a date.
What if it arrives damaged?
Every order is insured. Photograph the box and the pieces and contact us, and we will sort out a replacement or a refund.
