A copper vase finished in antique silver and engraved over its whole surface with foliage — leaves, vines and flower heads worked into the metal rather than printed on it. It comes in three heights and four silhouettes, from an 11-inch piece for a side table to a 16-inch one that holds a full arrangement.

Why this one

  • Engraved everywhere, including the foot. There is no plain panel on this vase. The pattern runs from the domed base up through the body to the flared rim.
  • Copper underneath, nickel-plated and oxidised, so the antique silver settles into the engraving and gives it depth rather than a flat grey.
  • Flared rim, narrow waist. The shape holds a loose arrangement upright without a frog or tape — stems splay against the neck and stay where you put them.
  • It works empty. Most vases look like they are waiting for something. This one reads as an object on its own.

Four options across three heights. They share the same engraving; what changes is the height and the silhouette.

  • Heritage — 11 inches, $120. The rounder of the two small ones. A side table, a mandir shelf, a bedside.
  • Liberty — 11 inches, $120. Same height, a longer neck and a narrower shoulder. Suits taller stems.
  • Freedom — 12 inches, $140. The middle size, with a fluted rim.
  • Republic — 16 inches, $160. The one to buy if it is going on a console or a dining table as the centrepiece.

All four take a 5-inch opening at the top and stand on a 4-inch base.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Heritage and Liberty?
Both are 11 inches and both carry the same engraving. Heritage is the rounder, squatter shape; Liberty has a longer neck and a narrower shoulder. If you arrange tall stems, take Liberty.
Can I put water and fresh flowers in it?
Yes. We would use a glass or plastic liner inside if the flowers are staying more than a day or two — standing water against a plated surface will mark it eventually. Dried stems and silk flowers need no liner at all.
Is it heavy enough not to tip?
Yes. The domed foot is weighted and the copper body has real mass — between about 800 g and 1,200 g depending on which size you choose.
Is the engraving on all sides?
Yes, all the way round and on the foot. There is no back to hide.
Is this German silver?
Not literally, and we would rather say so plainly. German silver — also sold as nickel silver — is a copper, nickel and zinc alloy that contains no silver in it at all. This piece is copper, nickel-plated and then oxidised so the darkening settles into the recesses of the engraving. A lot of this category gets sold as German silver regardless of what is actually underneath, so it is worth knowing which you are buying.
Can I use it for dried flowers or pampas?
Yes, and it suits them. No liner needed for dry stems.
How do I clean it?
Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Do not put it in the dishwasher and do not use abrasive scourers or acidic cleaners — they will cut through the plating. Between uses, store it in a sealed plastic bag; that slows tarnishing more than anything else you can do.
Will it tarnish?
Silver plating darkens over time, and the antique finish is designed to sit in the recesses and deepen the pattern as it does. That is the intended look. If you want it brighter, a light buff with a dry cloth on the raised areas will lift it.
