A davara set - also spelled dabara - is the two-piece vessel South Indian filter coffee is served in: a tumbler for the coffee and a wide-lipped bowl to pour it back and forth until it froths and cools enough to drink. This is six of them in hand-engraved brass.

Frequently asked questions

How do you actually use a davara?
Pour the hot coffee into the tumbler, then tip it into the wide bowl and back again, raising the tumbler as you pour. It aerates and cools the coffee and builds the froth. You drink from the tumbler, using the bowl to catch and cool.
Is brass safe for hot coffee?
Yes, brass has been used for Indian drinkware for centuries. Rinse and dry after each use rather than leaving coffee standing in it.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
No. Hand wash with a mild non-abrasive soap and dry immediately. Dishwasher detergent strips the finish.
Why 150 ml and not a mug size?
Filter kaapi is served short. A 150 ml davara is the standard South Indian serve - strong, hot and finished before it cools.
Will the finish change over time?
Brass darkens naturally. Polish it back with a standard brass cleaner if you prefer it bright, or leave it to deepen - both are normal and neither harms the piece.
How do I clean the engraving?
A soft brush and a dry cloth for daily care. Brass polish or a lemon-and-salt rub when it dulls - rinse and dry thoroughly afterwards, and keep polish off the inside.
What if it arrives damaged?
