A masala dabba is the round spice tin that sits beside the stove in most Indian kitchens - one lidded box holding seven small bowls, so the whole day's spices come out in one hand. This one is brass rather than the usual steel, 8 inches across, with a hand-engraved mandala on the lid.

Is it food safe?
Yes, brass has been used for Indian cookware and storage for centuries. Keep it dry and clean it regularly - acidic spices left damp against bare brass will mark it.
Can I put it in the dishwasher?
No. Hand wash the bowls with a mild non-abrasive soap and dry them immediately with a soft cotton cloth. Dishwasher detergent will strip the finish.
How many spices does it hold?
Seven, one per bowl. The bowls lift out so you can wash or refill them individually.
Does it seal airtight?
The lid seats snugly and keeps dust out, but it is not a vacuum seal. For whole spices you want to keep for months, an airtight jar is better - this is for what you cook with weekly.
Will the finish change over time?
Brass darkens naturally. Polish it back with a standard brass cleaner if you prefer it bright, or leave it to deepen - both are normal and neither harms the piece.
How do I clean the outside?
Wipe with a dry cloth. Brass polish or a lemon-and-salt rub restores the shine when it dulls. Keep polish away from the inside of the bowls.
What if it arrives damaged?
