A shankh is the conch blown at the opening of a pooja and held by Vishnu in one of his four hands. This one is cast in brass and hand-engraved across its whole surface with the Dashavatar - the ten incarnations of Vishnu, from Matsya the fish through to Kalki.

Why this one

All ten avatars are actually there. Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Vamana, Parashurama, Rama, Balarama, Buddha and Kalki, each engraved in its own panel rather than suggested by a pattern.

What are the ten avatars?

Matsya the fish, Kurma the turtle, Varaha the boar, Narasimha the man-lion, Vamana the dwarf, Parashurama, Rama, Balarama, Buddha and Kalki, who is yet to come. They are engraved in that sequence around the body.

Is it solid brass?
