36-Inch Mandala Mirror Wall Art – Peacock

Teal, gold and deep maroon, arranged as peacock-feather eyes radiating out from a 12-inch mirror ringed in red. Three feet across. Of the four mandalas at this size it is the one with the strongest single motif — the others build pattern from geometry, this one builds it from a bird.

How it is painted

Freehand from the centre outward. Each feather eye is drawn individually: the teal ground, the gold surround, the dark centre. Around forty of them make the outer ring, and they have to close the circle evenly without a stencil to mark the spacing. Look at the close-up photograph — the small variations between neighbouring feathers are the whole tell.

Why Peacock

One of four mandalas in this size. Where the others take their palette from a place — California Poppy, Hawa Mahal, Hawaii Rainforest — this one takes it from the bird that is India’s national symbol and turns up in half the craft traditions in the country.

Where it goes

Over a fireplace or a sideboard, on a wall with room around it. The teal wants a warm or neutral wall behind it — cream, oatmeal, warm white, or wood. On a cool grey wall the whole thing goes flat.

Check the size before you buy

Cut a 36-inch circle out of newspaper and tape it up where it will hang. Three feet is bigger than it looks in a photograph.

Hanging it

Two hooks on the back rather than one, so the disc cannot rotate out of true. At 5.6 kg both fixings need studs or rated drywall anchors. Two people. Screws and wall anchors are not supplied.

Care

Dust with a dry, soft cloth. Glass cleaner on the centre mirror only, applied to the cloth rather than sprayed.

What colour will it actually read as on my wall?
Teal-dominant with gold and maroon coming forward under warm light. It is darker overall than the photographs on a bright white background suggest.

California Poppy is the boldest, Hawa Mahal the quietest, Hawaii Rainforest the coolest. This one is the richest — the most colour depth of the four.
