36-Inch Mandala Mirror Wall Art – California Poppy

Three feet across. That is the first thing to understand about this piece — it is a metre of wall, not a mirror you hang over a hall table as an afterthought. A 12-inch mirror sits at the centre of a black disc worked outward in rings: orange poppy petals radiating like a sunburst, a band of white dots, fine gold detail, then a scalloped orange edge.
How it is painted
Every ring is laid on by hand, freehand, working from the centre out. There is no stencil and no transfer — the artisan keeps the spacing by eye, which on a circle three feet wide is the hard part. Look at the outer band of petals and you can see them breathe slightly in width. That is a hand, not a printer.
Why California Poppy
One of four mandalas in this size, each taking its palette from a place. The poppy is the orange-on-dark of a California hillside in April. The others are Hawa Mahal in Jaipur pink, Hawaii Rainforest in green and blue, and Peacock in teal and gold.

Where it goes
Over a fireplace, a long console, a sideboard, or on the one wall in an open-plan room that has nothing on it. At three feet it needs clear space around it — do not hang it inside a gallery arrangement, it will fight everything near it. It is the piece, and the rest of the wall works around it.
Check the size before you buy
Cut a 36-inch circle out of newspaper and tape it up where you plan to hang it. This is the single most useful thing you can do, because three feet is larger than most people picture from a photograph, and a mirror that is too big for its wall cannot be fixed after it arrives.
Hanging it
Two hooks are fitted to the back rather than one, which keeps a disc this size from rotating out of true. At 5.6 kg both fixings should go into studs, or into drywall anchors rated for the weight. This is a two-person job — one to hold, one to mark. Screws and wall anchors are not supplied.
Care
Dust with a dry, soft cloth. Glass cleaner on the centre mirror only, applied to the cloth rather than sprayed, so nothing runs onto the painted rings.
Frequently asked questions
Is the centre a real mirror?
Yes — real glass, 12 inches across. Big enough to be useful in an entryway, not a dressing mirror.
Is it actually orange?
Orange on black, with white and gold. In a warm-lit room it reads rust; in daylight it reads closer to true poppy orange.
Is it heavy?
5.6 kg, which is the heaviest wall piece we make. Fix it properly — see above.
