The most worked of the three door panels. Navy ground, gold pierced doors on brass hinges over a mirror, and behind and around those doors the whole field is filled with a gold diamond lattice set with small mirror tiles. Signed on the reverse under the artist’s studio label.

What you are looking at

Where Thunderstorm Blue Ridge leaves the field plain, this one covers it. A hand-ruled gold grid runs corner to corner, and into every other diamond sits a small tile of real mirror — the Thikri inlay tradition, the same technique used on the canvas panels in this series. Clear tiles, smoked tiles and a few tinted red, so the field is not uniform.

The doors are cut as a pointed jharokha arch, pierced with quatrefoil and teardrop openings, and hung on brass hinges. Closed, the lattice around them still fires. Open, you get the mirror as well.

Why Yellowstone

One of five panels, each named for an American landscape and painted in its colours — the navy and gold here for Yellowstone under early light. The others are Emerald Yosemite, Amber Bryce Canyon, Thunderstorm Blue Ridge and the White House.

Where it goes

Somewhere with light. The inlay is the whole argument for choosing this one over Thunderstorm Blue Ridge, and it needs a lamp, a picture light or a window to work — in a flat-lit corner the field goes dead. Above a console, on a hallway wall, over a sideboard.

Hanging it

A bracket is fitted to the back. At 1.8 kg, with doors that swing, use a screw into a stud or a rated drywall anchor. Screws and wall anchors are not supplied.

Care

Dust with a dry, soft brush — the lattice holds dust and a cloth will catch on the tile edges. Glass cleaner on the centre mirror only, applied to the cloth. Never spray liquid at the inlay. Do not oil the hinges.

Frequently asked questions

Do the doors really open?
Yes, on brass hinges, onto a mirror.

Are those real mirror tiles in the border?
Yes — small squares of real mirror glass, set one at a time into the painted lattice.

Is it signed?
Yes — on the reverse, in ink, beneath the artist’s printed studio label.

How does this differ from Thunderstorm Blue Ridge?
Same doors, same size, same price. Thunderstorm is a plain distressed blue field. This one is a full mirror-tile lattice. If you want the piece to do something under a light, take this one; if you want it quieter, take Thunderstorm.

Can I order several?
