Most urlis in this shape are gold all over. This set is the exception: the ring of diya-shaped cups around the rim is finished in ivory cream with gold inside each cup, so the collar reads pale against the hammered gold water bowl in the middle. It is the only two-tone flat-rim urli we make, and the reason people pick it over the all-gold sets.

Product details

  • Centre bowl: hand-hammered gold
  • Rim: diya-shaped cups, ivory outside and gold inside, each dished for a tealight
  • Handmade in India

Why this one

  • Ivory and gold, not gold on gold. The cream rim gives you contrast on a dark table, and it sits more comfortably in a room that is not otherwise gold. Lit at night, each cup glows against the pale collar.
  • Every rim cup takes a tealight. The cups are proper diya shapes — rounded body, pointed wick lip — and each one is dished deep enough for a standard tealight.
  • Hand-hammered centre bowl in gold, for water and floating flower heads.
  • Three sizes, 11 to 16 inches overall, with 6, 8.5 and 10 inch water bowls.
  • 1.44 kg for the set of three — about 3.2 lb / 51 oz. Light enough to lay out and clear away for a function.

Which rim do you want?

We make six flat-rim urli sets in this shape. The bowl is much the same on all of them; what changes is the collar around it — and whether that collar holds candles.

  • Lotus petal — pointed lotus-bud cups, each holds a tealight. 12–16 in across.
  • Om — this set. Diya-shaped cups in ivory and gold, each holds a tealight. 11–16 in across.
  • Diya — fluted lamp cups, all gold, each holds a tealight. 11–15 in across.
  • Rose — solid gold rosettes, decorative only; the candle goes in the centre. 9.5–12.5 in, the most compact set.
  • Sunflower — solid gold petals, decorative only. 12–16 in, the heaviest set.
  • Sunflower Pink — the same petals in pink with a gold centre. 12–16 in.

Where it works

Dark wood dining tables, where the ivory rim shows up in a way an all-gold set does not. Entrance floor at Diwali, as a rangoli alternative. Pooja room, for water, flowers and lamps. Neutral and modern interiors — this is the set to choose if a room full of gold is not the look you want.

Gifting

A good Diwali and griha pravesh gift for someone whose home leans neutral rather than traditional. Also used for Ganesh Chaturthi, Karva Chauth and housewarmings.

These go out as gift sets often enough that we keep stock deep. If you need several — wedding favours, a Diwali order for a team, return gifts for a large function — email contact@urliutsav.com before you order. Bulk pricing is available and we will confirm quantities and timing with you first.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an Om symbol on these?
No. Om is the name of the range, not a description of the pattern — the rim is a ring of diya-shaped cups with no lettering or symbol on it. If you specifically want an Om symbol, this is not the piece.
What colour is it exactly?
The rim cups are ivory cream on the outside with gold inside each cup. The centre bowl is hammered gold. It is a two-tone piece, not a plain gold one.
How many tealights does it take?
One per rim cup, and the number of cups goes up with the size. You can float an extra candle in the centre bowl.
Are the candles included?
No. Tealights, diyas and flowers are not supplied. You get the three bowls.
How heavy are they?
Light — about 3.2 lb for all three. These are pressed and hammered sheet iron with a painted and polished finish, not castings.
Will the ivory paint chip?
It is a painted finish over metal, so a hard knock can mark it. Wipe rather than scrub, and store the three with cloth between them.
Can I put water and a tealight in at the same time?
Yes. Water in the hammered centre, tealights in the rim cups. Keep the water below the rim so it does not run into the cups.
How do I clean them?
Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth. Do not soak them, do not put them in a dishwasher, and dry them fully after you empty the water out. Abrasive scourers and harsh cleaners will wear both the gold and the ivory.
Can they go outside?
For an evening on a covered patio, yes. Not for permanent outdoor use: they are iron underneath and will rust if they are rained on or left damp.
What if something arrives damaged?
Shipping is insured. Send a photo to contact@urliutsav.com and we will replace the piece or make it right.
Can I return them?
Yes, within 30 days in original condition and packaging. Return shipping is arranged and paid by the customer.
