A flat-rim urli sits on the table like a rangoli: a shallow hammered bowl in the middle for water and floating flowers, ringed by a wide collar of small cups you fill with tealights. This set has a rim of pointed lotus buds, each with a ridged leaf and a shallow oil cup at the tip, in three sizes from 12 to 16 inches across.

Why this one

  • The rim cups hold real tealights. Not every flat-rim urli does — three of the six sets we make have solid decorative rims. On this one every lotus bud is dished and takes a standard tealight, so the whole 16-inch circle lights up, not just the middle.
  • Hammered centre bowl. The inner dish is hand-hammered, so water and candlelight break up across the surface instead of sitting flat.
  • Three sizes, one pattern. 12, 14.5 and 16 inches overall, with 6, 8.5 and 10 inch water bowls. Grouped, they read as one arrangement.
  • 1.38 kg for the set of three — about 3 lb / 49 oz. These are sheet metal, not castings; they are meant to be light enough to lay out and clear away for a function.
  • It lies flat. No feet, no stem. It goes straight onto a table, a floor, or a rangoli area.

Which rim do you want?

We make six flat-rim urli sets in this shape. The bowl is much the same on all of them; what changes is the collar around it — and whether that collar holds candles.

  • Lotus petal — this set. Pointed lotus-bud cups, each holds a tealight. 12–16 in across.
  • Om — diya-shaped cups in ivory and gold, each holds a tealight. 11–16 in across.
  • Diya — fluted lamp cups, all gold, each holds a tealight. 11–15 in across.
  • Rose — solid gold rosettes, decorative only; the candle goes in the centre. 9.5–12.5 in, the most compact set.
  • Sunflower — solid gold petals, decorative only. 12–16 in, the heaviest set.
  • Sunflower Pink — the same petals in pink with a gold centre. 12–16 in.

Where it works

Dining or coffee table, one bowl with water, marigold heads and lit rim candles. Floor by the entrance during Diwali, in place of or alongside a drawn rangoli. Pooja room, for flowers and a lamp. Function and reception tables — all three sizes down a long table. Because they lie flat they also stack for storage between festivals.

Gifting

One of the easiest Diwali gifts to give: it is used the week it arrives, it suits any home, and it is not fragile in transit. Also given at griha pravesh, Ganesh Chaturthi and Karva Chauth.

These go out as gift sets often enough that we keep stock deep. If you need several — wedding favours, a Diwali order for a team, return gifts for a large function — email contact@urliutsav.com before you order. Bulk pricing is available and we will confirm quantities and timing with you first.

Frequently asked questions

How many tealights does it take?
Each lotus bud on the rim holds one standard tealight, and the sizes carry different numbers of buds — more on the 16 inch than the 12 inch. You can also float a candle in the centre bowl.

Are the candles included?
No. Tealights, diyas and flowers are not supplied. You get the three bowls.

How heavy are they, really?
Light. The whole set is about 3 lb. If you are expecting a solid brass weight, this is not that — it is pressed and hammered sheet iron with a gold finish, which is why a 16-inch piece costs what it does.

Can I put water and a tealight in at the same time?
Yes. Water in the hammered centre, tealights in the rim cups. Keep the water below the rim so it does not run into the cups.

Do the three nest for storage?
They stack loosely rather than nesting tightly, because the rims are the same shape at different scales. Put a cloth between them so the finish does not rub.

How do I clean them?
Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth. Do not soak them, do not put them in a dishwasher, and dry them fully after you empty the water out. The gold is a polished coating over iron, so abrasive scourers and harsh cleaners will wear it.

Will wax damage the rim cups?
Use tealights in their metal or plastic cups and there is nothing to clean up. If loose wax does get in, warm it slightly and lift it out rather than scraping.

Can they go outside?
For an evening on a covered patio, yes. Not for permanent outdoor use: they are iron underneath and will rust if they are rained on or left damp.

What if something arrives damaged?
Shipping is insured. Send a photo to contact@urliutsav.com and we will replace the piece or make it right.

Can I return them?
Yes, within 30 days in original condition and packaging. Return shipping is arranged and paid by the customer.
