This is the urli people buy for Diwali specifically. A hammered gold water bowl in the middle, ringed by a collar of fluted diya lamp cups — the ribbed, scalloped-edge shape of a traditional clay lamp, pressed in metal. Fill the middle with water and marigold heads, put a tealight in every cup, and the whole circle lights.

Product details

  • Centre bowl: hand-hammered
  • Rim: fluted diya lamp cups with scalloped lips, each dished for a tealight
  • Handmade in India

Why this one

  • The rim is made of lamps, not decoration. Each cup is a proper diya form with a fluted body and a scalloped lip, and each one is dished for a standard tealight.
  • The most lit-up of the six flat-rim sets when it is fully loaded, because the diya cups sit closer together than the petal rims do.
  • Hand-hammered centre bowl. The dimples break up reflected candlelight instead of throwing it back flat.
  • Three sizes, 11 to 15 inches overall, with 6, 8.5 and 10 inch water bowls.
  • 1.37 kg for the set of three — about 3 lb / 48 oz. One reviewer called it lighter than expected, so here is the honest version: this is pressed sheet metal, not cast brass, and that is what makes a 15-inch piece affordable.

Which rim do you want?

We make six flat-rim urli sets in this shape. The bowl is much the same on all of them; what changes is the collar around it — and whether that collar holds candles.

  • Lotus petal — pointed lotus-bud cups, each holds a tealight. 12–16 in across.
  • Om — diya-shaped cups in ivory and gold, each holds a tealight. 11–16 in across.
  • Diya — this set. Fluted lamp cups, all gold, each holds a tealight. 11–15 in across.
  • Rose — solid gold rosettes, decorative only; the candle goes in the centre. 9.5–12.5 in, the most compact set.
  • Sunflower — solid gold petals, decorative only. 12–16 in, the heaviest set.
  • Sunflower Pink — the same petals in pink with a gold centre. 12–16 in.

Where it works

The entrance floor at Diwali, which is what this shape is for. Dining and coffee tables. Pooja room, for water, flowers and lamps together. Function and reception tables — all three sizes down the centre of a long table. They lie flat, so they stack away between festivals.

Gifting

The most literal Diwali gift in the range — it is a bowl of lamps, and it gets used the week it arrives. Also given at griha pravesh, Karva Chauth and Ganesh Chaturthi.

These go out as gift sets often enough that we keep stock deep. If you need several — wedding favours, a Diwali order for a team, return gifts for a large function — email contact@urliutsav.com before you order. Bulk pricing is available and we will confirm quantities and timing with you first.

Frequently asked questions

How many tealights does it take?
One per diya cup, and the larger sizes carry more cups. You can also float a candle in the centre bowl.
Are the candles included?
No. Tealights, diyas and flowers are not supplied. You get the three bowls.
How heavy is it? A review mentioned it being light.
The whole set is about 3 lb. It is pressed and hammered sheet iron with a gold finish, not cast brass. That keeps a 15-inch piece affordable and easy to lay out for an event, but it will not feel like a solid metal object.
Can I use oil and a cotton wick instead of tealights?
Yes, the cups take a small amount of oil. Wipe them out afterwards so oil does not sit on the finish.
Can I put water and tealights in at the same time?
Yes. Water in the hammered centre, tealights in the rim cups. Keep the water below the rim so it does not run into the cups.
Do the three nest for storage?
They stack loosely rather than nesting tightly. Put a cloth between them so the finish does not rub.
How do I clean them?
Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth. Do not soak them, do not put them in a dishwasher, and dry them fully after you empty the water out. The gold is a polished coating over iron, so abrasive scourers and harsh cleaners will wear it.
Can they go outside?
For an evening on a covered patio, yes. Not for permanent outdoor use: they are iron underneath and will rust if they are rained on or left damp.
What if something arrives damaged?
Shipping is insured. Send a photo to contact@urliutsav.com and we will replace the piece or make it right.
Can I return them?
Yes, within 30 days in original condition and packaging. Return shipping is arranged and paid by the customer.
