White cotton parasols cut through with a floral lace pattern, 24 inches across when open. Light comes through the cutwork, which is what separates these from a plain white canopy.

Product details

What these are

A cutwork parasol is made by perforating the canopy rather than printing it - the floral pattern is cut out of the cloth, so the umbrella throws lace shadows in sun and glows when it is lit from behind or above. It is the version used for daytime and outdoor weddings.

Why this one

The cutwork is the whole argument. Against a plain fabric parasol, this one changes with the light: opaque and structural in shade, luminous with the sun behind it, and it casts a patterned shadow on the ground or on a table below. Mirror accents are set into the canopy on some of them. At 230 g each they hang cleanly and take a wooden handle stake outdoors.

Which set size

  • Set of 5 - $70, or $14 each. Enough for one backdrop, an aisle, or a photo corner.
  • Set of 10 - $120, or $12 each. A ceiling cluster over a mandap or a dance floor.
  • Set of 25 - $240, or $9.60 each. Full-venue coverage, or a hall ceiling.

All three sets are the same umbrella. Larger events usually need more than people expect - a ceiling cluster reads as sparse below about ten, and a single row of five along a wall reads as deliberate. If you need a quantity we do not list, email contact@urliutsav.com.

Where they go

Carried by a bride or bridesmaids at an outdoor ceremony. Hung over an aisle so the cutwork shadows fall along it. Staked in a row down a garden path. Clustered on a ceiling above a white or pastel table setting. Open behind a photo backdrop, where they read as texture rather than as a block of colour. They also work outside a wedding context - a christening, a garden party, an anniversary.

The rest of the range

We stock four canopies in two families. The printed and embroidered ones have a solid canopy worked with mirrors and metallic thread - these read as colour from across a room. The cutwork lace ones are perforated, so light comes through the pattern and they photograph as texture rather than as a block of colour.

Printed and embroidered: Bandhani cotton, assorted colours and gold print on silk, five colours. Cutwork lace: yellow cutwork lace.

Frequently asked questions

Are they pure white?
White and cream, and the mix across a set varies. Some carry a coloured handle detail. If your palette needs one exact shade across every umbrella, email contact@urliutsav.com before you order.
Do they give any shade?
Some, but do not buy them for it. The canopy is perforated, so a good deal of light comes straight through. They are photographic props and decor rather than sun protection.
Are these waterproof? Can I use them in the rain?
No. These are decorative parasols, not rain umbrellas. The canopies are unlined cotton or silk - some of them perforated on purpose - so rain goes through. Keep them dry and they will last through many events.
How do I hang them?
Most people hang them upside down from the canopy using fishing line or thin wire through the rib tips, or stake the handle into the ground outdoors. The shaft is a slim wooden pole, so it takes a zip tie or a length of twine easily. We do not supply hanging hardware.
Will they all look identical?
No. They are handworked, so the embroidery, the cutting and the placement of the mirrors vary from one umbrella to the next. In a cluster that reads as intentional rather than as a fault.
Can I reuse them after the event?
Yes - that is most of the point at this price. Close them, keep them dry and store them flat or hanging. The fabric creases where it folds; opening them a day early lets the folds drop out.
How do they arrive?
Folded and boxed together, closed, not individually wrapped. Open each one before the event to let the fold lines relax.
How do I clean them?
Spot clean with a barely damp cloth, or dry clean. Do not soak them - the mirror work and the metallic thread do not take washing, and a wet canopy dries misshapen.
What if one arrives damaged?
Shipping is insured. Photograph it, email contact@urliutsav.com, and we will replace it or make it right. Tell us your event date in the same email and we will prioritise it.
Can I return them?
Yes, within 30 days in original condition and packaging. Return shipping is arranged and paid by the customer. Because these are bought to a date, order early enough to open the box and check them with time to spare.
