A silk brocade table runner with a beaded border and tasselled ends, in three designs and two lengths. The long one crosses a ten-seat table; the short one suits a six.
Product details
- 78 x 12 inches (200 x 30 cm) or 108 x 12 inches (275 x 30 cm)
- Silk brocade face, plain solid back
- Beaded border along both long edges
- Tasselled at both ends
- Three designs
- Hand wash cold, line dry in shade
- Handmade in India
Which length
- 78 inches - $65. A six-seat dining table, a console, or a sideboard. Leaves a normal overhang at both ends of a 60 to 66 inch table.
- 108 inches - $75. An eight to ten-seat table, or a six-seat table if you want the runner to pool at the ends. Also the one to buy for a buffet or a mandap table.
Both are 12 inches (30 cm) wide. Measure your table and subtract about 12 inches to leave a sensible drop at each end - a runner that reaches the floor reads as a tablecloth that went wrong.
Which design
- Pink Elephant - pink ground with a repeating elephant motif
- Golden Elephant - gold elephants on a deeper ground with a red border
- Floral Pattern - red with an all-over floral and a gold beaded border
All three carry the beaded border and the tassels. The two elephant designs are the more figurative; the floral is the one that works at a table setting that is not explicitly festival-themed.
Why this one
It is finished on both long edges with a beaded border and at both ends with tassels, which is the part machine-made runners skip and the part you see when the runner is laid. The brocade is woven rather than printed, so the motif has a raised texture and will not crack along a fold line the way a printed runner does after a few uses.
Where it goes
Down the centre of a dining table for Diwali, a wedding or a birthday. Across a console behind a sofa with a lamp at one end. On a sideboard under a row of diyas - keep flames on a tray, not on the cloth. On a mandir table or a chowki. Folded across the foot of a bed. It is one of the few festival pieces that stays out afterwards without looking like leftover decoration.
Goes with
The four sets of 16 inch brocade cushion covers are woven in the same cloth, and the elephant cushion set matches the two elephant runners directly.
Gifting
A runner is the safest textile gift there is - no sizing, no colour matching to furniture the recipient owns, and it packs into a slim box. Tell us at checkout if you are sending it directly and we will leave the invoice out.
