The set in this listing is portraits and elephants rather than deities: a Rajasthani man in a red turban, a woman in a headscarf, a couple, a jewelled princess in profile, and two elephant designs. Painted on the same 10-inch varnished MDF disc as the rest of the range, on polka-dot and flat-colour grounds that put them closer to boho decor than to devotional art.

Product details

  • 10 inch diameter
  • 10 mm thick
  • Weight: 460 g (approx. 1 lb / 16.2 oz) per plate
  • MDF board, hand-painted and varnished
  • Hand-painted in India
  • Hanging hook fitted to the back
  • Price is per plate - choose one design above
  • Decorative only, not food safe

Why these work on a wall

460 g each - about a pound. That is the number that makes a gallery wall of these practical: a single small nail or a rated pushpin holds one, so you can hang five or six without touching a stud, and move them when the arrangement is wrong. The varnish coat is what keeps the paint from scuffing when you take them down and put them back up.

Which of the six

  • BohoMan - a man's face in a red turban with a gold earring
  • BohoWoman - a woman's face in a green headscarf on yellow
  • BohoCouple - the two together on a black polka-dot ground
  • WhiteElephant - an elephant design on a dotted ground
  • AmbawariElephant - an elephant in full ambawari regalia
  • RajKumari - a princess in profile with jewellery and a lotus, on black

BohoMan, BohoWoman and BohoCouple hang naturally as a trio with the couple in the middle. The two elephants pair with each other. Rajkumari holds a wall on her own. Check the photographs against the design names before choosing.

Where they go

Stair walls, entryway walls, above a console or a sideboard, in a kitchen nook, or filling the awkward vertical strip beside a doorway that nothing else fits. A single plate reads as an accent; three or more read as a collection. They also sit well interleaved with a wooden cow or elephant head from the same range.

The other plate designs

Twenty-one designs are spread across four listings, all the same 10-inch plate at the same price. This one carries six boho portrait and elephant designs. The others are the six Pichwai cow designs, the four Krishna, peacock and cow designs and the five deity and Vrindavan designs. Mix freely - they were made to hang together.

Hanging them

A hook is already fitted to the back of each plate. At 460 g a small nail or a heavy-duty pushpin is enough - no anchors needed. For a group, lay the plates out on the floor first and photograph the arrangement before you put a single hole in the wall.

Care

Wipe with a soft cloth. Glass cleaner applied to the cloth rather than sprayed will lift finger marks off the varnish. Do not soak them and do not put them in a dishwasher - they are painted MDF, not ceramic.

Frequently asked questions

What does Ambawari mean?
The ambawari is the canopied howdah carried on an elephant's back in Rajasthani processions. The design shows the elephant in that full ceremonial dress rather than plain.
Do the three portraits have to be bought together?
No - each is sold separately. They line up as a trio if you want them that way, with the couple centred, but any of them works alone.
Can I eat off it?
No. These are decorative wall plates - hand-painted, varnished MDF, not glazed ceramic and not food safe. They are made to hang, not to serve.
Is it real wood?
MDF board, which is engineered wood. It is what makes a 10-inch plate come in at 460 g and stay perfectly flat instead of warping the way a thin solid-wood disc would.
Can I mix designs from your other plate listings?
Yes, and most people do. All four plate listings are the same 10-inch size, the same thickness and the same price, so they hang together as one set regardless of which listing they came from.
Does it come ready to hang?
Yes. A hook is fitted to the back. Nails and pushpins are not supplied.
Will mine look exactly like the photograph?
Close, not identical. Each plate is painted by hand, so line weight and colour depth shift a little between pieces. That variation is the reason to buy a hand-painted plate rather than a printed one.
Is the price for one plate or a set?
One plate. Choose your design from the dropdown. Add several to the cart if you want a group.
Can they go in a kitchen or a bathroom?
A dry kitchen wall away from the hob is fine. Bathrooms are not - steam gets into MDF and lifts the varnish.
What if one arrives damaged?
Shipping is insured. Photograph the damage, email contact@urliutsav.com, and we will replace it or make it right.
Can I return it?
Yes, within 30 days in original condition and packaging. Return shipping is arranged and paid by the customer.
Can I order several?
For hospitality, restaurants, stores or corporate gifting, email contact@urliutsav.com and we will quote you for a bulk order.

Just to note that the background of elephant image is dark green, even though it seemed dark gray/black in the listing photo.
