Adiyogi is Shiva as the first yogi - the figure credited in Indian tradition with giving yoga to humanity, shown here as the half-lit face with closed eyes and matted hair that Isha's Coimbatore bust made familiar worldwide. This is that face hand-painted in blue and white on a 24-inch disc, two feet across, with tiny mirrors set into the surround.

How it is painted
The face is laid on by hand over a dark ground, freehand, with the highlights built up in layers rather than outlined. The mirror pieces are set individually into the clay-and-paint surface while it is still workable. No two discs come out identical - the tilt of the brow and the spacing of the mirrors shift slightly from one to the next.
Why this one
Two feet across and 2,500 g (approx. 5.5 lb) of MDF and paint. That weight is why the piece hangs flat against a wall instead of bowing, and why it needs a proper fixing rather than a picture nail. It is also the difference between a printed canvas and a painted panel - there is a physical surface here, with mirror set into it, that catches light differently through the day.
Where it goes
Above an altar or pooja shelf, in a yoga or meditation room, at the end of a hallway, or over a console in an entryway. It reads well on a dark wall - the blue and the mirror both lift against charcoal or deep green, and get lost slightly against white.
The rest of the series
Five 24-inch discs share this format, each a different subject: the Warli village scene, the Kathakali face, the Yin Yang and the maroon and blue mandala. Hung as a pair or a row of three they read as a set, because the diameter and the thickness match exactly.
Hanging it
A hook is fitted to the back. At this weight the fixing should go into a stud or a drywall anchor rated for it - a plain picture nail is not enough. Screws and wall anchors are not supplied.
Care
Dust with a dry, soft cloth. If there is mirror inlay, use glass cleaner on the mirror only, applied to the cloth rather than sprayed, so nothing runs onto the paint.
