A Rajasthani woman with her hands folded in namaste, greeting whoever walks in. Her odhni is red and gold, worked in white dots and drawn over her hair; she wears a green choli, a layered gold necklace, a maang tikka and a nose ring. Like her counterpart she is built in raised relief, set inside a mustard jharokha arch on a deep blue dotted field.
This is one half of a pair. The man in namaste is the other, and most customers hang them together on either side of a doorway.

How it is made
The odhni, the face, the jewellery and the folded hands are cut as separate layers and built up on the panel so the piece has real depth. Painting follows: the gold edging on the odhni, the necklace, the eyes, and the white dot work that covers both her veil and the blue ground behind her. Every dot is placed by hand.
Where it goes
Entryways, almost always — a pair either side of the front door is the traditional arrangement. Also used flanking a mandir, at the top of a staircase, or in a restaurant or shop entrance.
Hanging it
Fittings are on the back. At 1.73 kg use a screw into a drywall anchor. If you are hanging the pair, measure the gap first — each panel is 16 inches wide and they look best with matching clearance either side of the door frame. Screws and wall anchors are not supplied.
Care
Dust with a dry, soft brush, working around the raised odhni and jewellery. Do not spray liquid at the surface.
