Amber Bryce Canyon Jharokha Wall Art – Signed Original, 20x16

The quietest panel in the series, and the one people stand in front of longest. At its centre, painted on canvas in the Mughal guldasta manner, a single flowering plant rises from a brown urn — pink lotus blooms, green leaves, nothing else. No crowding, no gold. Flanking it, two vertical bands of small round mirror discs set into a rust-red lattice. Signed on the reverse under the artist’s studio label.

What you are looking at

Mughal botanical painting is an exercise in restraint: one plant, centred, on an empty ground, rendered accurately enough to identify but stylised enough to be an emblem rather than a study. Sakshi Khullar paints it the traditional way, in thin layers on canvas, and then does something the tradition does not — sets it inside a jharokha, so you are looking at the flower through a palace window.

The mirror discs in the side panels are round rather than square, which is unusual in this work and gives a softer, more scattered light than the diamond lattices on the rest of the series. The frame is moulded terracotta with a gilded rope edge.

Why Bryce Canyon

One of five panels, each named for an American landscape and painted in its palette. Amber Bryce Canyon takes the rust and ochre of the hoodoos. The others are Emerald Yosemite, Thunderstorm Blue Ridge, Yellowstone Mist and the White House.

Where it goes

It is the one in the series that will sit in a restrained room without arguing with it — a pale wall, a bedroom, a study, above a narrow console. It also stands well on a shelf or a mantel propped rather than hung, which the photographs show.

Hanging it

A sawtooth bracket is fitted to the back. At 1.34 kg a single screw into a drywall anchor is enough. Screws and wall anchors are not supplied.

Care

Dust with a dry, soft brush. Never spray liquid onto it — cleaner will creep under the edges of the mirror discs.

How does it compare to Emerald Yosemite?
