Radha and Krishna seated together inside a jharokha arch, both built up in raised relief so they stand clear of the panel and throw a real shadow. Krishna is blue-skinned with a peacock-feather crown and his flute at his lips; Radha sits beside him in a green choli and red skirt, her odhni drawn over her hair. Behind them the ground runs from magenta into deep violet. Around the arch, a saffron field worked with fine gold jaali line work.

How it is made

The figures are cut individually — the flute, the crown, each layer of cloth — then built up on the panel so the composition has depth rather than being painted flat. Painting comes after: the gold border on Radha’s skirt, the dots on Krishna’s dhoti, the jewellery, the eyes. The ombre ground behind them is blended by hand, which is why no two panels shade at quite the same point.

Where it goes

Pooja rooms and prayer corners first. Beyond that: entryways, living-room gallery walls, and above a console — the photographs show it hung between two smaller framed pieces, which is how it works best in a group. It is a common wedding and griha pravesh gift, since Radha and Krishna are the traditional emblem of devoted love.

Hanging it

Fittings are on the back. At 1.73 kg use a screw into a drywall anchor rather than a bare nail. Screws and wall anchors are not supplied.

Care

Dust with a dry, soft brush, working around the raised figures. Do not spray liquid at the surface.

Frequently asked questions

Are the figures raised or printed?
Raised. They are cut and layered onto the panel, then painted. Look at the angled photograph and you can see them standing off the surface.
Is it suitable for a pooja room?
Yes, and that is where most of them go. It is a wall panel rather than an idol, so it carries no ritual requirements — hang it where it can be seen.
Is it a good wedding gift?
It is one of our most-gifted pieces for weddings and housewarmings. Radha and Krishna together are the standard emblem of devotion, and at 20 × 16 inches it is substantial enough to read as a real gift.
Can I order several?
