Why a pair

Because one lantern is a lamp and two are a scheme. The set is deliberately one red and one blue rather than a matched pair - hung together at slightly different heights, or set at either end of a table, the two colours throw different light and the arrangement reads as intentional. A single lantern on its own tends to look like it lost its partner.

What the light does

This is the whole reason to buy a stained glass lantern rather than a plain one. With a tealight inside, the coloured panels throw patterned light onto whatever is behind them - a wall, a table, a porch ceiling. Unlit and in daylight they read as coloured glass and gold metal, which is a different and quieter object. Both are worth having; the lit version is the one people buy them for.

Where they go

Hung from a branch or a pergola over an outdoor table, which is where the thrown light is at its best. Either end of a mantel. On a hall console. Down the centre of a dining table at Diwali or Eid. On a porch step. Clustered with more of the same for a wedding or a sangeet - they are bought in multiples for exactly that.

How many lanterns do I get?
Two - one with red glass and one with blue, both in the same gold filigree metalwork.
Can I use a real candle instead of a tealight?
A tealight in its own metal cup is what these are sized for. Do not put a taper or a pillar candle in - the glass sits close and there is no room for wax to pool safely.
Can I use an LED tealight?
Yes, and for a table with children or fabric around it we would suggest you do. A flickering LED gives you most of the effect through coloured glass.
Can they stay outside?
For an evening on a covered porch or under a tree, yes. Not permanently - the metalwork is decorative rather than weatherproof and it will spot if it is rained on repeatedly.
How do I clean the glass?
A dry or barely damp soft cloth on the outside. Do not soak them - water sitting in the channel where glass meets metal will lift the finish over time.
Will the two look identical apart from the colour?
Close. The filigree is worked by hand, so small differences in the metalwork between the two are normal.
Can I hang them?
Yes - each has a loop at the top. Use fishing line or thin chain, and hang from something that will take the weight with a candle burning inside.
What if it arrives damaged?

Can I return it?
