Nazar is the Indian word for the evil eye - the harm a covetous look is said to do - and the blue glass eye hung by the door to absorb it is one of the oldest charms in the Mediterranean and South Asia alike. This is that charm made in cotton rope: a glass nazar bead at the centre, coiled rope around it, and a fringe of tassels below. Twenty-four inches from hook to fringe.

Why this one

Most evil eye wall decor is a printed disc or a stamped metal plate. This one is worked in rope and thread by hand, with a real glass bead set into the middle, which gives it the texture the printed versions cannot fake. At 600 g it is light enough that a heavy-duty pushpin holds it - no drilling, which matters for renters and for the spot immediately beside a door frame.

  • Blue - the traditional colour, deep blue rope and fringe
