Two hammered iron planters in a warm gold finish, eight inches and seven inches, sold as a pair. The hammering is done by hand, so the light catches each one differently and neither is quite like the other.

Product details

  • Large planter: 8 x 8 x 8 inches
  • Medium planter: 7 x 7 x 7 inches
  • Weight: 1,250 g for the set (2.8 lb)
  • Hammered iron, gold finish
  • Made in India
  • Sold as a set of two
  • Hand-hammered - the texture varies piece to piece

Why this one

Iron, not resin and not thin pressed tin. 1,250 g for the pair, hammered by hand and finished in gold - the dents are struck one at a time, which is why the surface breaks up reflected light instead of throwing it back flat. They nest visually rather than physically: the 8 inch sits beside the 7 inch as a pair, and each holds its shape under a full pot of wet soil.

Where it goes

On a console or a mantel as a pair, tall plant in the large one and something trailing in the small. Split between two rooms to carry a metallic thread through both. On a kitchen windowsill with herbs. As a table centrepiece at an event, where gold reads well under warm light. Indoors, or on a covered porch - see the outdoor question below.

How to plant them

The simplest approach with any metal planter is to keep the soil out of the metal: pot the plant in a plastic nursery pot and drop that inside, so you can lift it out to water and the iron never sits in wet soil. It also lets you swap the plant seasonally without repotting.

Gifting

A pair of planters is one of the easier gifts to get right - it does not need to match anything, and it works for a housewarming, a wedding or Diwali. Tell us at checkout if you are sending it directly and we will leave the invoice out.

Frequently asked questions

What are they made of?
Iron, hammered and finished in gold. Not resin, not plastic, not a coated ceramic. At 1,250 g for the pair you can feel it as soon as you pick one up.
Do they have drainage holes?
Use them as cachepots - plant into a nursery pot and set that inside. That is the right way to use a metal planter whether or not it drains, because iron and permanently wet soil do not get on. If you need the drainage answer confirmed before ordering, email contact@urliutsav.com and we will check a set in stock for you.
Can they go outside?
On a covered porch or a sheltered balcony, yes. We would not leave iron out in the rain or through a winter - the finish is decorative rather than weatherproof, and a metal pot in full afternoon sun also cooks roots.
Will the two look identical?
No, and that is the point. The hammering is struck by hand, so the pattern of dents differs between the two and between one set and the next.
How big a plant fits?
The 8 inch holds a standard 6 inch nursery pot with room to spare; the 7 inch takes a 5 inch. Think a small monstera or a snake plant in the large one, a pothos or an orchid in the small.
How do I clean the gold finish?
A dry or barely damp soft cloth. No abrasive pads and no metal polish - the finish is applied, not solid brass, and polish will take it off.
Are they sold separately?
No, they ship as a set of two.
What if they arrive damaged?
Shipping is insured. Photograph the damage, email contact@urliutsav.com, and we will replace the set or make it right.
Can I return them?
Yes, within 30 days in original condition and packaging. Return shipping is arranged and paid by the customer.
Can I order several sets?
Yes - they are ordered in multiples for events and table settings. Email contact@urliutsav.com with your quantity and date and we will quote you.
