Cutout Lotus Urli Bowls – Set of 3 Sitting Urlis, Gold

Why this one

• The cutouts are the point. The lotus and leaf shapes are cut clean through the metal, not stamped or printed on. Put a tealight in and the pattern appears on whatever the bowl is standing on.
• Smooth satin gold, not hammered. If you want texture, the hammered set is a different listing. This one is deliberately plain-surfaced so the piercing reads clearly.
• Three sizes that nest and group. 6, 9 and 12.5 inches across. They cluster on one table or spread over three surfaces.
• 1.5 kg for the set of three — about 3.3 lb / 53 oz. Heavy enough to sit still when you fill it with water, light enough to move one-handed.
• Raised on a foot. The pedestal lifts the bowl about an inch off the surface, which keeps a wet base off your table and gives the group some height.

We make four sets that look similar in a thumbnail and are quite different in a room. Two things separate them: whether the bowl is pierced with cutouts or hammered, and whether it sits low or stands on a stem.

• Cutout, sitting — this set. Pierced lotus cutouts, short foot, 4.5–7 in tall
• Hammered, sitting — Hammered dimpled surface, short foot, 5.5–8 in tall
• Hammered, standing — Hammered bowls on tall slim stems, 12.5–16 in tall
• Cutout, standing — Pierced lotus cutouts on tall stems, 13.5–17.5 in tall

Where it works

Entryway console, filled with water and marigold heads — the traditional placement. Dining table centre, all three in a line with floating tealights. Pooja room or home temple, for flowers and prasad. Coffee table, using the large one alone with a single flower. They also work empty, as a sculptural group.
